Following an eight-month construction phase, GLS Austria is commencing operations at the largest GLS site in Styria. The environmentally friendly depot in Kalsdorf near Graz offers more space for employees and parcel handling alike.
GLS has invested some nine million euros in the depot and its state-of-the-art equipment, with the new depot replacing the old site in Unterpremstätten. The handling capacity has increased by more than 70 per cent – and now stands at up to 29,000 parcels a day. In addition, the number of bays for processing delivery vehicles has doubled to 100. There is scope for further capacity expansion to keep pace with future growth.
More capacity, more employees
The depot’s cutting-edge conveyor system boosts productivity, thus reducing working times for employees and transport partners. GLS took employee needs into account with the new site, with the spacious communal areas extremely well received among staff and delivery drivers. What’s more, 32 new jobs have been created. The new depot also boasts green elements such as a heat pump-based heating system and charging points for electric cars.
